We are situated on a lovely quiet cul de sac in the picturesque old town of Gananoque on a spacious lawn with grand maples in front of the house. Just walk around the corner and you are on the shores of the mighty St. Lawrence river with an exquisite marina, beach for swimming and the departure dock for the famous 1000 Islands cruises which take you through this millionaire's playground with all it's illustrious history. Shopping , restaurants , theatre are around the next corner and all within easy walking distance. The 1000 Islands is an Eldorado for boaters and other water sports like diving. Sea kayaking is popular on the St. Lawrence and you will find a number of opportunities to rent equipment and for instruction even for the novice. Sailing is also big as Kingston on the shore of the great Lake Ontario is only 20 minutes away and is called the "Fresh water Sailing Capital of the world". The city hosted the 1976 Sailing Olympics. Kingston is one of Canada's most historical and vibrant Cities boasting a beautiful waterfront , many architectural treasures ,first class restaurants and shops, and one of Canada's finest Universities with a very picturesque downtown campus. Originally Kingston was designated to be the Capital of Canada and is now linked to Ottawa via the Rideau Canal , a monumental engineering feat of the 19th century with 45 locks which are all still hand operated ; now a world heritage site. The Unesco has also designated our region as the Thousand Islands -Frontenac Arch Biosphere which has the highest biodiversity in all of Canada. Here the Canadian Shield with it's typically glacially shaped granite is dotted with hundreds of lakes so fishing, camping and hiking is abundant which a number of world class provincial and national parks within an hour radius : St. Lawrence Islands, Frontenac Park, Charleston Lake, Sandbanks. Sandbanks is approx. an hour west in beautiful Prince Edward county, a gourmet's paradise , rolling wine growing country dotted with historic villages and towns, fabulous beaches and an appealing coast line with secluded bays.
