Traditional Turkish Market
If you enjoy the atmosphere and haggling at a market, Turgetris is located a 40 minute drive away. This small town comes alive on a Saturday with a huge market selling everything you could want from clothing to food to souvenirs.
Bodrum Town
Bodrum offers something for all whether history is your passion, designer clothing & accessories or just meandering around the cobbled streets soaking up the relaxed atmosphere; this truly is a place for all tastes.
Mausoleum of Halicarnassus
Bodrum is home to one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus. The mausoleum was completed in 350 BC, however, there is not a lot left to see of this ancient and once magnificent tomb as after almost 19 centuries an earthquake destroyed it in 1304. Today the site has pleasant gardens with excavations to the right and a covered arcade to the left. Despite the lack of the original tomb, this site is still well worth a visit.
Bodrum Castle
Constructed between 1406 & 1522 by the Saint Jean knights on Zephia Island, as a result of their original castles in Izmir, Girit and Istankoy, being destroyed by Tamburlaine Khan (the Turkish supreme ruler of Tatar tribes). The castle is now a museum and was officially opened in 1961.
Shopping
Take a stroll along the newly developed harbour and you will find genuine designer stores; GANT, Diesel, Tommy Hilfiger, Polo Sport and many more. When venturing into the heart of Bodrum you will find a vast selection of shops selling "designer" goods from t-shirts to towels. If you crave the bustle of a market place visit one of the weekly markets either for meat & vegetables, Seafood or textiles. Check onsite for details of the markets as days of week and products sold can vary.
Eating Out
When it's time for a break the selection of restaurants is excellent. The marina is packed with choice whether you fancy a traditional Turkish meal or a taste from home their will be something to satisfy your taste. Obviously seafood is the speciality. A must while in Turkey is to enjoy a meal at the exclusive Marina Yacht club, remember this is Turkey so the prices are very reasonable.
Buses go into Bodrum town centre on a daily, approx every hour. |
