'Casa Pozo' is located in a tiny picturesque village beside an Atlantic bay of golden sand, rocks and trees. It is an unpretentious country seaside home ideal for relaxing. Get back to your roots and discover there is more to life than TV - which we do not have. If you want a typical high spec modern luxury villa in a flashy urbanisation, this is not it! Zahora has grown slowly over many years. We think it is definitely the best spot on the southern Iberian coast. However, if you want to experience Zahora as it is you need to go soon! It must be seen to be believed! More and more people including the Spanish are getting to realize just how special it is. Our house is beside one of the little tarmac lanes which lead to the bay. You can easily stroll down the lane to the beach (8-10 minutes). There are several very pretty little cottages along the way with flowering shrubs tumbling over garden walls. On the left of the bay is Cabo Trafalgar where stands a beautiful lighthouse high on rugged rocks. It is off this point that the British and Spanish fleets met in battle in 1805. The opposite side of the bay has a ruined stone shepherds cottage overgrown with fig trees. The only properties visable from the beach are a stone built restaurant with thatched roof in African style and a wooden bar restaurant. These provide heavenly places to enjoy a drink or meal. Thankfully there is very limited parking near the beach so it is difficult for those outside the village to access it so it does not get too crowded in July and August and in other months the beach can be almost deserted. At high tide you may enjoy a full swim and some excellent body boarding. At low tide large areas of shallow water remain. This is the time for small children to learn to swim and to enjoy all the other pleasures of a family beach holiday such as crabbing in rock pools, beach games, sand castles, etc. Walking is surprisingly good in and around Zahora and also nearby in the beautiful forest of 'La Brena' natural park. You should take your camera and binoculars. In spite of the small size of Zahora it has many surprises hidden away and you can live and shop in the village between visits to larger towns. The little old fashioned local shop opens every day all year. You will be served over the counter by the owner, so brush up on your Spanish vocabulary. Between 1st April and mid October the village camp site swimming pool is available (subject to numbers). This is the 'pool facility' listed. Other services available from April - October include, cash machine, bike hire, car wash, pizzaria, fish monger, butcher, and 4 food shops. Horse riding, surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing are very popular nearby. There are a dozen places where you can eat and drink all within walking distance of the house! They are privately owned and managed and set in various locations around the village. Keep an eye open for notices and you could enjoy a memorable night of flamenco and music within waliking distance of the house! A typical perfect summer day at Casa Pozo consists of a morning at the beach, a shower in the garden, lunch with a sleep inducing drink followed by a lazy afternoon siesta. Now wake refreshed to take in the charged atmosphere of yet another perfect Spanish starry night. The pulse may race a little in what is already a romantic, warm summer evening. This is a good time to visit the bay where the lighthouse winks intermittently and the sound of the tide draws you to the waters edge. You can dine outside under the stars beside the ocean or inside if you prefer. Waiters are friendly and the food is good. You may prefer to dine under the stars at the house. In addition to the inside kitchen facilities there is an excellent brick built barbeque outside. It has a traditional real fire hearth plus a three ring gas burner and tiled work surface. The little walled garden is totally private and not overlooked. It is safe for young children. In hot weather everyone loves to shower in the garden to freshen up or wash off sand from the beach. If you want to venture further afield you will find plenty of interest. You cannot possibly take in everything in one holiday. You are almost bound to want to return for more. Sporting facilities are world class both on land and water. There are facinating old historic towns to explore and incredible coastal and inland vistas. Look out for the dates of local festivals. Do visit one or two sherry bodegas. Activities available by car include a zoo, aqua park, aquarium, go karts, ferry ride across the bay, shopping mall, trip to Gibraltar or even Marocco and drives to incredibly beautiful parts of the interior of the province with cobalt blue lakes, and sparkling white towns and villages hiding in the rugged mountains. At the end of a busy day it is just perfect to return to Casa Pozo and the wonderful unspoiled village of Zahora. Casa Pozo has parking for one large or two small cars within the walled and gated garden |
